Antique 19th C. American Portrait Oil Painting of a Gentleman Signed Dated 1868
DESCRIPTION / CONDITION / PROVENANCE. This is a beautiful, well executed, American portrait oil painting, of an older gentleman seated in a chair.

The man is well dressed, most likely he is someone of importance, professor, doctor, or political figure of the times. Painting is signed by the artist and dated 1868, but unfortunately it is extremely hard to make out the signature, as the paint has darkened over the years, but it is definitely there. (see photos) Painting is mounted in it's original gold gilt carved wood frame, piece is quite large and heavy.

The condition of the painting is nice could use a good professional cleaning and coat of varnish. The frame has wear from age, as well as some chips and touch ups through-out. We acquired this piece from a friend's private collection, who is a very high end collector and dealer at times.

He said that he had picked this piece up quite a few years ago from a mansion/estate in Amherst, New Hampshire. Where they had to liquidate some of the collection of paintings and items to pay for the upkeep of thee estate.
