Because of the composition, especially the skillful use of empty space, we feel a sense of fragile beauty, perhaps not to last forever. This little picture is a fine achievement in its own way, and it grows on you as you take the time to contemplate it. The artist has signed, lower left, and I was happy to have tracked down her identity. Dimensions are about 7.75 inches by 10.25 inches, including the gilded Art Nouveau frame, which is all by itself an interesting antique.

The painting may have toned a bit with age, though the "Old Master" palette chosen by the artist is voluntary. Condition all around is quite good.
